This book is a compilation of information and experiences collected during a career in commodity futures, options, and swaps that has spanned four decades. During this time I have worked as a market analyst, marketing manager, research director, and futures/options/ swaps contract designer, all of which provided a broad exposure to the many facets of this dynamic industry. 

When I became a professor in 2012, I found a lack of suitable materials for students planning careers as practitioners. Conversations with corporate recruiters confi rmed my fi ndings, and led me to develop classroom materials that provide the necessary theoretical background, but also cover the practical applications that employers expect new hires to understand. These materials have been used by more than a thousand college students to date, whose feedback has helped to refi ne the information presented in this book.
