During the past several decades, air transportation has undergone very intensive growth. With this development appeared an entire range of practical problems to be solved. Successfully solving these problems required operations research methods and modern computer technology, whose development and application were primarily the work of specialized air carrier departments. The annual AGIFORS symposiums made a considerable contribution to air carriers' exchanges of experience and to further development of operations research methods in the field of air transportation.

在过去的几十年里，航空运输经历了非常密集的增长。随着这一发展，出现了一系列需要解决的实际问题。成功地解决这些问题需要运筹学方法和现代计算机技术，而这些技术的开发和应用主要是航空运输专业部门的工作。每年举行的AGIFORS专题讨论会为航空公司的经验交流和进一步发展航空运输领域的运筹学方法作出了相当大的贡献。
