This report builds upon the Global Infrastructure Team’s coordinated carbon capture utilization and storage/sequestration (CCS and CCUS used interchangeably) report from last year: Compelling Carbon Capture Considerations. Simply, many jurisdictions and companies are moving closer to meaningful CCS capital being deployed with positive emissions impacts. “Mainstreaming” CCS capital provides multiple areas for investment potential across an extensive emitting ecosystem. All About Abatement: Most recently, many policy issues were formalized and accelerated to further address CCS across multiple jurisdictions. Several places (including Australia, Canada, UK and the US) possess ample storage potential relative to emissions run rates along with fairly well-established CCS ecosystems to promote development. Companies in this report generally fall into a barbell: (1) smaller (and generally private companies) being fully exposed to CCS with a spectrum of new and established technologies; and, (2) larger emitters along with a variety of traditional energy infrastructure companies accelerating CCS efforts with often great dollar value (albeit small in the context of the overall business).
