Living up to its name, beauty has consistently been one of the most attractive parts of the global consumer products market. Year after year, its growth has exceeded that of the wider

consumer packaged goods industry, enabling the leading players to deliver strong share price performances. However, 2020 is set to mark a rare year of contraction as coronavirus-linked

restrictions took their toll. Much more important, though, is how the industry recovers. In this report we seek to plot the future for the beauty category, based on our proprietary survey of 4,700

consumers across the US, mainland China and France. The results are encouraging: consumers’ appetite for the category appears undimmed with areas such as skin care set to remain strong and those affected by COVID-19 likely to recover. With good prospects for the category’s dynamism returning, we retain our Buy ratings on Amorepacific, LG H&H and LVMH. We raise our L’Oréal target price and remain at Hold, and upgrade Henkel to Buy from Hold.
