Energy demand is projected to almost double in Asia and the Pacific by 2030. Innovative ways to generate power in a socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable manner are urgently needed. Compounding the problem is widespread energy poverty across Asia and the Pacific, with 150 million people still without access to electricity in 2020.6 ADB has provided assistance to developing member countries in the energy sector for more than 40 years. The bank has been working to improve access to reliable, affordable, low-carbon energy across Asia and the Pacific through its various financing instruments and governance reform assistance.
