We hosted Li-Cycle’s founder and CEO Ajay Kochhar and IR Tim Sun for an HSBC Local Insights event on 30 June 2021. Li-Cycle is developing a battery recycling business and will soon list on the NYSE through a SPAC. 

In the rush to vehicle electrification, there are concerns that some of the materials used to make batteries will be in short supply. This is particularly the case with cobalt, but also with lithium, copper, nickel and other metals. The Korean and Chinese battery makers will account for more than 60% of global battery shipments in 2021e according to SNE. So their corporate policies and practices with regard to material sourcing (virgin and recycled) will have a big impact on industry raw material availability and pricing.
