This year’s rise in core inflation continues with June releases pointing to a 0.5%m/m jump in our global aggregate. The break from business cycle norms is striking: since the 1980s, core inflation has drifted lower well into the expansion as slack weighs on prices. By contrast, after bottoming late last year, core inflation has surged to a 3%ar in the first two quarters of the year— marking the fastest pace in the past quarter century.
