After a summer of climate-related disasters and record-high temperatures, world leaders will sit downin Glasgow in early November to decide how to implement the Paris Agreement on climate change.The 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(COP26) will take place as it becomes clearer than ever that humans are responsible for almost allobserved global warming. A recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)describes evidence for this as “unequivocal”, emphasising that countries will need to act rapidly anddecisively to curtail global emissions if they are to limit average global warming to the ParisAgreement target of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
