Worldwide app downloads totaled 35.7B in 3Q21, a 1.9 percent year-over-year decrease from the 36.4B in 3Q20 driven by high download totals during the COVID-19 pandemic. App Store downloads fell 1.4 percent to 8.1B, while Google Play downloads dropped 2 percent to 27.6B.

TikTok became the fifth app ever to reach 3 billion downloads across the App Store and Google Play. It was the first app not owned by Facebook to reach this threshold.
